Last week’s cold snap and early dusting of snow might tempt Berkshire music lovers to stay cozy by the fire, but this week’s vibrant lineup of 42 performances offers plenty of reasons to head out. From classical and jazz to rock, folk, pop, gospel, and global sounds spanning India, the Middle East, Senegal, and Morocco, the region’s stages are alive with variety and energy. Explore the highlights below—and don’t forget to browse the full schedule to plan your next night out.
This week’s music scene is full of local favorites, so we kick off our show rundown with them. Wednesday offers the Jason Ennis Trio at The Lion’s Den, with Hot Sauce at the Den on Thursday, followed by Johnny Irion on Friday. Also on Friday, Wanda Houston is at Firefly Gastropub. Saturday brings Chris Merenda at Route 8 Pub, Michael Aaron at Berkshire Mountain Distillers, Misty Blues at Barrington Hall, Jordan Weller and The Feathers at Egremont Barn, and The Refrigerators at The Stationery Factory. Whew! Sunday, you’ll find Katherine Winston at Dream Away Lodge, and the Michael Junkins Trio at The Lion’s Den.
In addition to these local favorites, you’ll find these highlighted performances:
- Andrius Žlabys, piano – Visiting Artist Series at Williams College on Tuesday. Catch this free performance by the Grammy®-nominated pianist, who has earned international praise for his performances with top orchestras like The New York Philharmonic and Boston Symphony Orchestra.
- WFUV presents: An evening with Griffin House (pictured above) at Egremont Barn on Thursday. House became a national headliner in 2009 after appearing on Late Night with Craig Ferguson and releasing his underground hit “The Guy That Says Goodbye to You is Out of His Mind.” It’s one of those songs you’ve heard but never knew the title. He’s also the subject of an Amazon Prime music documentary, “Rising Star,” that chronicles his journey through the music industry.
- Hayley Jane Band at Egremont Barn on Friday. The band blends the raw power of rock, the soul of folk, and the dramatic intensity of a great film score into a genre-defying performance.
- Williams Gospel Choir at Williams College on Saturday afternoon. Celebrate the choir’s 40th anniversary at this uplifting free performance.
- Jonny Rodgers: MELICHROMES at Studio 9 on Saturday. Experience this immersive concert, featuring duets with detuned glass, violin, and saxophone, that explores the tender beauty of alternate tuning systems and how they influence the mind, body, and spirit.
- Harvest & Rust: A Neil Young Experience at Colonial Theatre on Saturday. The performance, titled “80 Years of Neil,” promises a setlist covering Young’s extensive catalog—from the acoustic intimacy of “Harvest” to the raw energy of “Rust Never Sleeps.”
- Sasha K.A. at Dream Away Lodge on Saturday. We’re approaching the final weeks before Dream Away closes for winter, making it a great time to check out Sasha K.A., known for his charming, pop-influenced folk tunes and lush instrumentals.
- Performing Artists in Residence Concert at The Clark Art Institute on Sunday (Sold Out). Pianist Andrew Armstrong joins Performing Artists in Residence Edward Arron (cello) and Jeewon Park (piano) for a special concert featuring works by Mozart, Schumann, Schubert, Shostakovich, and Gershwin.
- TLI Chamber Concert at Tanglewood Linde Center on Sunday. A quintet will perform works by Ives and Beach.
Finally, Race Brook Lodge is hosting its Fall Gratitude Festival series, with four shows offering music from around the world. Friday, you’ll find An Evening of North Indian Classical Music, Saturday brings the Middle Eastern Duo al Rouh & Friends, followed on Sunday by Senegali Aba Diop and The Yermande Family. The festival concludes on Monday with Moroccan Club d’Elf featuring John Medeski.
